Mini Missions: Parts of a Model Rocket and Flight Sequence

Students will explore the parts of a model rocket and the stages of a rocket’s flight.

Activity 1: Rocket Parts Matching and Coloring (15-20 min): Students complete a matching and coloring activity to identify rocket parts—nose cone, body tube, fins, and engine—and understand their functions.

Activity 2: Human Rocket Activity (15-20 min): In groups or as a class, students act out each rocket part, assembling a “human rocket” to demonstrate each component’s role.

Activity 3: Soda Bottle Rocket Launcher (20-30 min): Students observe the stages of a rocket’s flight (Liftoff, Acceleration, Climb, Peak Altitude, Recovery System Deploys, Landing). This activity includes a recording sheet for observations.
