Take your rocket launches beyond the launch pad with the Estes AltiTrak™—a hands-on tool designed to bring real-world data collection into your STEM classroom. With this simple, sight-based altitude tracker, students can measure the height of their rockets while learning the principles of geometry, physics, and engineering in action.

Using the AltiTrak is easy. Students just pull the trigger, follow the rocket through apogee, and release the trigger to lock in the altitude reading. No expensive electronics are required, and the device won’t add extra weight to the rocket. For even more accuracy, pair two AltiTraks and have students practice triangulation while working together in teams.

  • Hands-On Learning: Students collect and analyze real flight data during rocket launches.
  • Simple and Reliable: Pull, track, release—easy steps for accurate altitude measurement.
  • STEM Integration: Demonstrates geometry, physics, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative Activities: Use two AltiTraks for team-based triangulation experiments.
  • Classroom Ready: Durable, reusable, and designed for educational applications.

Overview

The Estes AltiTrak™ gives teachers an engaging way to connect rocketry to STEM learning. More than just a launch-day accessory, it becomes a gateway to real-world math and science applications. Students can record altitude data, compare multiple launches, and apply classroom concepts in a fun, hands-on environment.

Bring Geometry and Physics to Life

With each flight, students practice angular measurement and use it to calculate height, reinforcing classroom lessons in a tangible, exciting way. These experiments also introduce key physics concepts such as velocity, trajectory, and gravity—all within the context of a model rocket launch.

Promote Teamwork and Collaboration

Encourage students to work in pairs or groups by using two AltiTraks at different viewing points. This triangulation activity not only improves accuracy but also develops teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. It’s an engaging exercise that connects scientific principles to real-world applications.

A Practical Tool for STEM Classrooms

Durable, affordable, and easy to use, the Estes AltiTrak is a must-have for any classroom, camp, or youth program incorporating model rocketry. It provides meaningful hands-on experience, inspiring curiosity while reinforcing STEM learning outcomes. With the AltiTrak, every launch becomes a teachable moment.

Could be better

Tracker works fine but mine came with the front cross hair not in and I had to get it put into the plastic, the trigger is thin enough and the spring is strong enough to cause some discomfort while using it.

Kid-friendly

Simple to use- we use it with students as young as 6 with great success

requires a long distance footprint...

I've used the AltiTrak for years with my physical science students at the 8th and 9th grade levels. It does require a position at least 76 m distance from the launchpad to be accurate. And students must be trained and have time to practice using it to be accurate. If you have lower level students or very short class periods, it may not be the best choice.
